Phishing Scam Targeting E-ZPass Users

April 15, 2024

By: Andrea Harris

Our security team was recently alerted to a new phishing scam targeting users of the turnpike E-ZPass system. This scam has been reported by toll agencies across the country over the past several days.

Consumers report receiving a text message claiming to be from PA Turnpike Toll Services with an urgent request for payment. These texts claim that if the account balance is not settled, it will result in late fees for the customer. The customer is given a link to a fake website where the scammer will have their victim send them money or submit account information.

Customers who receive an unsolicited text, email, or similar message claiming to be from E-ZPass or similar toll agencies should not click on any links or submit to any requests for payment or information. If you need to pay down an outstanding balance on your E-ZPass account, you can use official links such as the PA Turnpike E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.

Anyone who has received a fraudulent text can file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov. If you believe you have fallen victim to a scam, please contact the Bank so we can guide you through the process of closing your affected accounts and opening new ones.
