In 2026, America marks a once-in-a-generation milestone: the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation. As we prepare to honor this historic occasion, Lehigh County is proud to be a part of America250PA—a statewide initiative uniting all 67 counties in reflection, celebration, and vision for our shared future.
To celebrate join us at The Making History Gala 2025, which will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at DeSales University. A signature event celebrating our region’s contributions to the American story and building momentum for the year ahead. The Emmaus Historical Society invites you to join them for the September program, “The Silk Mills of Emaus, their History and Heritage.” Did you know that the first silk mill in Emaus opened in 1892 and by 1900, with 23 silk mills located in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvaia was the second largest producer of silk in the world! Learn a little more about the many silk mills of Emaus and the entrepreneurs who built them and established them as one of the many industries that employed people living in Emaus and the surrounding towns in the 1890s through the 1920s. Perhaps you can even share a story or two of your ancestors who may have even worked in one of the mills!

Get Ready for Fall Planting!
Join us for The Seed Farm’s 2025 Fall Plant Sale — rain or shine — this weekend in Emmaus!

The Seed Farm is a dynamic farming program that increases access to agriculture at all levels, from the farmers in our agricultural incubator program to families facing food insecurity in urban neighborhoods. The Seed Farm plays a unique role, providing land, infrastructure, equipment, training, and access to resources to new farmers; providing materials, technical support, and education to establish and maintain urban gardens at food pantries; growing food for direct distribution to food pantries; and providing year-round education and training opportunities to new and beginning farmers and the broader community.
