Certificate of Deposit FAQ

  1. A Certificate of Deposit (also known as a CD) is a deposit account that pays a fixed interest rate for a set period ranging from a few months to several years. This period of time is the CD's “term.” By depositing your money into a CD for a set term, you won't lose any of your initial deposit and lock in a set interest rate until your money matures.

  2. You earn interest starting from the date you open the account up to your maturity date. Your interest compounds daily and will be credited monthly or paid at maturity, depending on the product you've selected. Interest can be re-deposited to the CD or transferred to a New Tripoli Bank checking or savings account.

  3. A $500 minimum deposit is required to open a certificate of deposit.

  4. You have three options for funding your CD account:

    • Transfer from an existing New Tripoli Bank account.
    • Transfer from a non-New Tripoli Bank account. You'll need your account number and the nine-digit routing number found on your check or deposit slip.
    • Use a check or money order by mail or in person. You can mail in your check or money order or go to a local branch after you submit your application.
  5. If your account has an original maturity of 12 months or less, the fee we may impose will equal 90 days of interest on the amount withdrawn subject to penalty.

If your account has an original maturity of 13 months or more, the fee we may impose will equal 180 days of interest on the amount withdrawn subject to penalty.

  6. Unless the Bank has otherwise advised you in writing, your account will automatically renew at maturity. You will receive a renewal notice with update annual percent yield, maturity date, and other information regarding your account.

You may prevent renewal if you withdraw or transfer the funds from your account at maturity or New Tripoli Bank receives written notice from you within 10 calendar days after maturity. We may prevent renewal if we mail you notice at least 30 calendar days before maturity. If either we or you prevent renewal, interest will not accrue after maturity. You have 10 calendar days after maturity to withdraw funds without a penalty.

  7. You can apply for 91 or 182* days, or 9*, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48, or 60 month terms.

*Special terms available as of 8/22/2023
